Mondi RB720, Project in Richards Bay, South Africa
Since 1981, Pöyry has been involved continuously in several Mondi projects in South Africa. The first phase of the greenfield Richards Bay pulp mill was completed in 1981-1984. In the recent RB720 project, the fibre line will be converted for continuous cooking and several other mill departments will be rebuilt.
The first phase of RB720 (early 2004) includes the rebuilding of:
- pulp drying line 1
- parts of existing fibre line (screening, bleaching, bleaching)
- recovery boilers
- new stack to replace the old one
- new chip screens in wood room
The second phase of RB720 (scheduled for 2004-2005) includes:
- new continuos cooking and bleaching plant of 720 000 ADt/a
- new evaporation plant 2
- new causticising plant 2
- new lime reburning kiln to replace the old one
- newelectrostatic precipitator 6
- improved malodorous gas handling
Pöyry's offices in South Africa and in Finland will provide project management and complete engineering services for the RB720 project.
